Luke is One!!

Luke is a year old. That still feels funny to say but it is the truth. We had a small (if you call 30 adults and 9 kids small) on Saturday to commemorate the occasion. It was such a blast. Tata and Ajji were nice enough to let us have the party at their house.

Most of Luke's friends came including Jaeda, Caden, Dominick, Colin, Sawyer, and Sophie. Unfortunately, his girlfriend Layla was sick but sent her love and regards through her mother who attended. His cousins Lillian and Ashley were there as well. Luke was so excited to see everyone that I could not find him most of the time. He was crawling over to people, sticking his hand in their faces or giving them high fives. Poor Colin had a bit of a casualty with the coffee table and suffered his first war wound. He was a brave little solider and was back to himself in no time though.

We had set up a huge inflated pirate ship in the basement with ball pit balls for the kids. Hands down, that was the most popular location for the kids except for when it was time for the cake of course. Jaeda and Sawyer (the true toddlers) showed the others how to dive into all the balls. I wish they had something like that for adults!

The pirate ship almost never happened due to some pump snafus. When it came time to inflate the ship, Rich and I realized that neither the tire pump nor the bicycle pump worked! We were on the floor, manually inflating the ship with our lungs, when Jeff, Luke's godfather, walked in. The regular MaGuyver that he is, he used a hairdryer, and Voila, there stood the pirate ship in all its glory. Without him, we might still be there blowing up the pirate ship (being that it was 10ft long, 5ft. wide and 4ft deep).

Luke's godmother, Swetha, was nice enough to supply the cake which was amazing!! Everyone was raving about how amazing the cake was. Unfortunately, I had food poisoning the night before the party and was unable to sample the cake. Thanks Swetha for bringing the cake! Luke had his own little pirate cake that was supposed to be what he ate to get his first taste of cake. When the time came, he wanted nothing to do with it. I guess he does not have his mom's sweet tooth.

Rich and I had so much fun at the party and wanted to thank everyone for coming!! We really appreciate you taking the time out of your day to come and celebrate with us. Luke is very lucky to have friends and family that love and support him like you all do. He also wanted to thank everyone for all his gifts. Karen, Rich wanted to especially thank you for the toy box because he was worried about where he is going to put everything.

Yesterday was Luke's actual birthday (the 24th of January). We celebrated by having a quiet day at home with just the three of us. In the evening after dinner, we had a little piece of cake and sang to Luke (he still wanted nothing to do with cake so Rich and I ate it). All in all, a very successful celebration.
